NASCAR is probably one of the most famous and popular organizations that hold car racing events. NASCAR stands for National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, not nas and car, like many people mistakenly presume. NASCAR is owned by the France family and is also operated by them.
NASCAR was founded by Bill France who is the grandfather of the current CEO, Brian France. Bill France, a car racer himself, participated in a car race in Daytona Beach, which was the place where all the speed records were broken at that time. Twenty-seven cars were involved, but at the end of the race, only ten cars remained due to the long distance that was too much for the racing cars of nineteen thirty-six. France was in the fifth place. He was later inspired to make an organization of his own to hold annual car races and events that were organized, not just put at random times whenever someone felt like having a race. Bill France sought the supporting of AAA, and when they accepted to give him support, he started making plans for NASACAR and finally founded it in nineteen forty-seven.
NASCAR is largely known for its three series, or cups. The first of them is called the Sprint Cup Series. This is the place for NASCAR’s most talented professionals to compete; it is also NASCAR’s greatest profiting event. Cale Yarborough and Jimmie Johnson are just two of the many superstars competing in this cup. In fact, Johnson is the only driver to win four consecutive times. The first of the Sprint Cup Series events took place in nineteen seventy-one. The 2009 Sprint Cup Series was made up of thirty-six races which were finished in a period of ten months.
The second of NASCAR’s most popular series is the Nationwide Series. The most recent champion in this division is Kyle Busch. This series started out in nineteen eighty-two and was sponsored by the Budweiser brand. The Nationwide Series is NASCAR’s only famous series which takes place outside the United States. Its seasons are a little bit shorter and the prize money is significantly lower. Over the past few years, some Sprint Cup drivers have participated in both Sprint Cup series and nationwide series. They use the nationwide series as a warm-up for the big Sprint Cup series. Some consider this very unfair, because the presence of Sprint Cup drivers reduces the number of regular nationwide drivers. From 2010 onwards, NASCAR Nationwide series will adopt new models of cars called the “Cars of Tomorrow” which are already being used in the Sprint Cup.
The third and final series of NASCAR’s most popular is called the Camping World Truck Series which features pickup trucks. The pickup trucks used in this division are not old normal trucks; instead, they are highly improved and modern. The most recent winner of this series is called Rob Hornaday. This type of series has undergone many changes from the day it began, but it all led to a better and safer NASCAR.
